What are Purple Heart donations?
Purple Heart donations can consist of various objects ranging from your old car to your old clothes. Donations given to this nonprofit group – the Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation, Inc - will raise funds needed to help veterans and their families by providing services such as rehabilitation, welfare and educational programs.
The order is comprised of U.S. veterans who have been wounded in combat and thus awarded the Purple Heart medal. The organization does not ask for your money or your time, only for things in your home that you no longer use. Items that can be donated include clothes, household items and cars. These are not given to the veterans themselves, but rather sold to various thrift stores and auction houses, and the foundation then uses the proceeds to support, sponsor and participate in the above mentioned services.
Where can I make Purple Heart donations?
Depending on where you live, you can request that a Purple Heart service truck pick up your donated goods from your curb (drivers do not pull into driveways or enter donors’ properties, thus you’ll want to place donations on your curb and clearly labeled with “Purple Heart”). For car donations, a tow truck service will come to your home and haul your vehicle away. If the pickup service is not available in your area, there are drop-off locations nationwide.
